Introducing Food Friends
Written by: Rosie Collins
We are excited to share the news that we are teaming up with Food Friends as our new charity partner.
Food Friends were chosen by our team from a shortlist to become our Charity of the Year.
Food Friends is a local charity working hard to combat loneliness and isolation in communities through food and friendship. Their meal sharing initiative connects volunteers - who are looking to share extra portions of home cooked food - with a neighbour - who would benefit from a nutritious meal delivered with company and conversation.
Meals are typically shared on a weekly basis and the volunteer cooks, armed with saucepans and a little bit of spare time, have shared over 10,000 meals so far. Food Friends started in Whitstable and now runs across the Canterbury, Ashford and Swale Districts.
Sharing food is a fantastic way of forming new friendships - the volunteering role is simple, uniquely rewarding, built on a love of food and its ability to connect those in a community who would otherwise never cross paths. It’s super flexible, feels great and can be slotted into a busy schedule.
We will be launching a whole host of initiatives in the next year to raise awareness and much-needed funding for Food Friends. If you are personally interested in sharing an extra portion of your home cooked food with someone living nearby, as and when you can, you can find out more here or call the team on 01227 250410.
Please also keep an eye on your inbox and on our social media for other opportunities to get involved and support this amazing charity!
