Trapetto Di Caprifico

Multi award-winning olive oil from the Masciantonio family.

Tommaso and his family have been providing us with our house extra virgin olive oil for over a decade. They produce what is recognised as one of Italy’s finest olive oils on the high plateaus of Caprafico, in the protective shade of the Maiella mountain on the Adriatic coast of Abruzzo, East Italy.

Tommaso’s corner of Italy is a haven of olive groves and undulating hills with far reaching views out over the eastern seas of Italy. Stefano stumbled across the area when visiting Giacomo Santoleri, another of our fantastic suppliers, on a tasting recce.

The family has been growing olives since 1874 and, like Macknade, there are three generations of Masciantonios involved in the farm.

What makes Tommaso’s oil so unique is the altitude at which it grows, the indigenous olives he uses (Gentile di Chieti) and most importantly, the fact that he mills himself. The latter means that the time taken from picking the olives to turning it into oil is kept to a minimum minimum, trapping the olive’s rich flavours, characters and nutrients.

In Tommaso’s own words, “This is more than just oil. It is olive juice, good enough to drink!”
