At Macknade, we care a lot about the quality of our produce, that’s why we are working with The Pasture-Fed Livestock Association to promote the unique quality & benefits of produce raised exclusively on pasture…
The idea for the Pasture-Fed Livestock Association arose in 2009, when a small group of British farmers decided to join together to shout about the wide-ranging benefits of producing meat from animals fed exclusively on pasture.
Since then, the Association has developed into an active, credible organisation that successfully champions the virtues of grass-based farming and meat production. The membership now includes farmers, butchers, retailers and consumers – all with a passion to increase the supply and market for pasture fed meat.
Pasture containing grasses, wildflowers and herbs is the natural diet of cattle and sheep and is much healthier for humans. Yet today, very few animals are fed on pasture alone. Many farmers now try to produce their meat as quickly as possible, by feeding foods like cereals and imported soya, and keeping them indoors for some, or all of the time. So animals are vanishing from our fields and the tasty, healthy, grass-fed food they produce is hard to find.
Here at Macknade, we strongly believe in what the association is trying to achieve and have been working with Pasture for Life accredited farmers to supply pasture fed meat where possible in our butchery. Earlier this year, we became Pasture for Life certified, making us the only PFLA certified butchery in East Kent!
