With our biggest months still to come, we reflect on a busy year so far (& 40 years under our belts!) and look forward to some exciting new developments at our Flagship Food Hall in Faversham…
Macknade never changes at its core. Our values and mission remain the same as they always have done – to be your Favourite Place… a place for people & communities to come together over a shared joy of food & drink.
The way we do that is always evolving and later this year we are due to open a second site at Elwick Place in Ashford, so more people can be part of the Macknade magic.

Macknade Wine & Spirits
Having worked closely with Hercules Wine Warehouse on site for the best part of a decade, over the last few years we have been working with them to fulfil their long term strategy of returning to Sandwich to focus on their business there, and allowing us to evolve the wine and spirits offering that we have in-house.
Kent is now the driving force of the Great British wine movement and we intend on being right at the heart of it, starting with our new wine shop, which showcases over 500 wines from near & far, and a fantastic range of craft spirits. From Kentish gins to fine whiskeys, champagne to Bordeaux, it is wonderful to see such a vast range of drinks outside of the big cities (& offline) and we are excited for you to explore them with us.
We will of course be adding some Macknade twists & turns to the offer, so please come in and let us know what you would like to see and any ideas you have to improve the experience…or simply to share a glass!!
This is another hugely exciting project for us that will really evolve over time. Whilst fully respecting the hard work Herman and his family have put into the onsite fishmongers, we have a strong desire to take the enjoyment of fish in a different direction. We are acutely aware of the damage done to our oceans, and particularly fish stocks, so we are keen to progress with a simple and sustainable approach going forwards.
As such, we are teaming up with Sebastian Candelon and his team at The Fresh Fish Shop, who have unrivalled knowledge about fish and how to make the most of it.
Working together, we want to bring fresh fish to growing numbers and we want to do it in a truly sustainable manner, with as little packaging as possible. Initially, fish will be on offer on Thursdays & Fridays over the coming weeks, with a view to Sebastian supporting us in building a fishmongers that mirrors our butchery experience… rich in provenance, knowledge & skill.
We will select what we stock carefully, making sure that it comes from healthy fish stocks. This will be primarily sourced from small day boats across the South Coast, from Sussex all the way through to Cornwall… and when it’s gone, it’s gone!
As we reach into our busiest time of the year (Christmas is indeed on the horizon!),we are working hard to deliver an experience that is second to none. We are pushing ahead with dynamic and progressive projects, continually looking at where we can improve & learn.
Our aim is to deliver wonderful food & drink and experiences, all the while investigating every avenue we can to improve our sustainability and make sure we are here for years to come in a world we can be proud to say we fully support.
