Improving Our Café
Our new & improved café is on its way…
We have spent quite some time looking at how to deliver the best service we can in our café.
You will have noticed some significant, positive changes already and there will be a few others coming into effect from the 18th of May, which we hope will lead to an improved service for you.
The café has remained very much the same since we opened with a few tables opposite the deli over four years ago, and feel that now is the right time to take it to the next level!
We have already:
Numbered all the tables
This has allowed our front of house team to manage the orders more effectively, meaning that they always know where you are sitting (when previously time had been spent ‘hunting’ the wooden spoon!).
Moved the coffee machine
You may not have noticed, but by slightly repositioning the coffee grinder and machine we have created more workable space that allows our Baristas to work more effectively and get drinks out quicker.
Moved the magazine counter
This allows for trolleys & prams to be kept in the café, so they don’t block the café entrance.
Changed the way cutlery is provided
Knives & forks are now being collected at the till. This gives our team more time to spend interacting and avoids the odd occasion where food was being delivered without cutlery!
Begun using new teapots
These teapots have internal baskets and are perfect for our loose tea. It means that we do not need to offer sieves and makes pouring much easier.
Adding more condiments
We will have a range of condiments available, and self-serve water in both the upstairs & downstairs areas. There will be more condiments from the shop to try with your food, to showcase what we do and get feedback.
We always loathe to put up prices, but we have become aware that we need to bring our prices up to make sure the café is able to manage its costs effectively.
It is the first time we have increased prices since we started and we feel they are still very fair, particularly in consideration of the time our Baristas put in to making the coffees. This does mean that we expect all our coffees to be excellent all of the time and our Baristas will be working hard to make the perfect coffee!
Reshaping the serving area
We feel that the space could work more effectively and are playing around with ideas. Principally, we would like the coffee machine to be positioned so that Baristas don’t have their backs to the counter and can talk directly to you.
Reinvigorating our menu
We have some real favourites, but believe we can do better by decluttering and adding some new ideas to our menu. We will also be focussing on a comprehensive range of rotating specials for you to enjoy each week.
We will be closing the café on the 16th & 17th of May to make some of these changes and train the team. Musical Bumps & Reading Fairy will both still be running, but you won’t be able to enjoy food & drink in the café before or after the class.
As with the shop as a whole, we are very proud of our café and what the team achieve.
Our aim with the café, from the outset, was to solve the dilemma of not being able to find an Italian-quality espresso outside of Italy…and we are proud to have achieved that!
We now need to take the café on to the next level, making sure it can look after itself in the years ahead, whilst still keeping the special character that it has.
From the front of house Baristas to the kitchen team who cook & clean behind the scenes, the café put a great deal of effort into getting the Macknade experience just right.
We know we can always make improvements and we are always grateful for any feedback that helps us improve, so please do feel comfortable giving it to us. We love what we do but our main aim everyday is to give you the best experience we can.
Paul, our Cafe Manager, is in most days and would be more than happy to talk through any of your ideas or suggestions. Alternatively, just give us a call on 01795 534497 or email Paul by clicking here.
